The right dose is the smallest one that gets you through the work in front of you. More is not better with wakefulness agents — past a certain point you trade clarity for restlessness and a ruined night of sleep.
Start low, then adjust
Half a 200 mg Modafinil tablet, or half a 150 mg Armodafinil tablet, is a sensible first trial. Many people never need more. Give any new dose two separate days before deciding, since sleep debt from the previous night can distort your first impression.
Match the compound to the schedule
- Standard 9-to-5: 100-200 mg Modafinil on waking.
- Early shift starting before dawn: 75-150 mg Armodafinil, taken at the start of the shift.
- Overnight shift: dose one hour before the shift begins, never mid-shift.
- Exam or deadline day: dose on waking, and prepare your task list the night before.
Frequency
Most experienced users keep it to two or three days a week. That spacing keeps tolerance low, preserves the effect for the days that genuinely matter, and leaves room for normal recovery sleep in between.
Signs you have taken too much
- Racing thoughts without productive output
- Tight jaw, headache, or irritability
- Difficulty sleeping more than 14 hours after dosing
- Appetite gone for the entire day
If any of these show up, halve the dose next time. None of this replaces medical advice — consult a licensed clinician before starting, particularly if you take other prescription medication.
